RM Auctions held its 2009 Sports & Classics of Monterey auction on August 13th to 15th at the Portola Hotel & Spa and Monterey Convention Center in Monterey, California.
\n\"\"<\/a>
\nRM Auctions’ 24th annual auction featured nearly 240 cars, resulting in total sales in excess of $35 million and 12 cars surpassing the $500,000 mark.<\/p>\n

The top five sales were the ex-Phil Hill 1952 Jaguar C-Type at $2,530,000, 1955 Aston Martin DB3S at $1,980,000, 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ Disappearing Top Convertible Coupe at $1,430,000, 1938 Talbot-Lago T120 Roadster at $900,000 and 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB\/4 Daytona Spyder at $880,000.<\/p>\n

Additional top-sellers at RM’s Sports & Classics of Monterey event included the 1952 Ferrari 225S ‘Sport’ Berlinetta Vignale at $781,000, 1939 Lagonda LG6 Rapide at $632,500, 1931 Miller V16 Racing Car at $600,000 and 1968 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Race Car at $572,000.<\/p>\n

“With over 85% of the 239 cars sold, including the very exciting 1952 Jaguar C-Type, and a current sales total exceeding $34 million, we are pleased with the weekend’s results which reflect our consistently strong sell-through performance year to date,” said Ian Kelleher, President & Chief Operating Officer of RM Auctions.<\/p>\n

“The global interest and enthusiasm in our 2009 Monterey event led to a packed sales room of active bidders each of the three evenings, and RM is confident that throughout the course of the next few days several other major transactions will take place and continue to elevate these numbers in excess of the anticipated pre-sale expectations,” Kelleher added.<\/p>\n

A further highlight was the sale of a factory-original 2005 Ford GT super car, offered on behalf of the Ford Motor Company and selling for $181,500 with a portion of the sale proceeds benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). To coincide with the offering, Mr. Edsel B. Ford II, Board Director, Ford Motor Company and his son, Henry, joined a group of local Monterey JDRF youth ambassadors to witness its sale.<\/p>\n

“Once again the Ford Motor Company’s long-standing relationship with RM Auctions proved to be a wonderful opportunity to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation amidst a crowd that appreciates all the great things our employee driven Ford Global Walk Team does for children around the world,” said Mr. Ford following the auction. “We were thrilled to work with the team at RM Auctions once again in this capacity to continue our support of JDRF and its mission to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.”<\/p>\n

RM Auctions offered 239 cars for sale, with 206 finding new owners, reflecting an 86% sale rate. The total sales volume was $35,522,600 and the average price per car sold was $172,439.<\/p>\n

In 2008, RM sold 147 of 172 cars offered (85% sales rate) for total sales of $44,093,450. The average price per car sold was $299,955.<\/p>\n
