\"\"<\/a>In Goodwood’s heyday, especially in the circuit\u2019s earliest years, the Goodwood Trophy race was for older (essentially pre-war) single seater racing cars, although the trophy was also used for sports cars.<\/p>\n

At the Goodwood Revival, it is a race for Grand Prix and Formule Libre single seaters of a type that raced between 1930 and 1948, namely Alfa Romeo Tipo B (P3) and \u2018Alfetta\u2019; BRM V16; Bugatti Type 54 and 59; ERA; Maserati 4CM, 6CM and 4CLT; Alta and Talbot Lago.<\/p>\n

The 2009 Goodwood Revival saw RA veteran Ludovic Lindsay add yet another victory to his impressive tally in the Goodwood Trophy on Saturday morning. He led from start-to-finish in what proved an ERA whitewash, blasting from inside the front row aboard \u2018Remus\u2019 R5B to head John Ure in R9B. The latter, a winner here in 2001 and \u201904, initially kept Lindsay honest as fellow front-row starter Mark Gillies in R3A slowed noticeably on the second tour as fuel pressure problems hobbled his progress. The lead battle concatenated lap on lap until half-distance when Ure pulled out as his car developed a misfire.<\/p>\n

This promoted California-based Dubliner Paddins Dowling in the ex-Peter Whitehead R10B who was epically fast through St Mary\u2019s and palpably closing on the leader with just four minutes to go. With ten laps completed, Dowling was glued to the tail of \u2018Remus\u2019 as Lindsay negotiated slower traffic but the 1.5-litre machine was no match for its larger displacement rival in a straight-line. Lindsay took the chequer to head Dowling by 2.36-seconds with Mac Hulbert third in R4D. Matt Grist was first of the non-ERAs in fourth place aboard his father Paul\u2019s glorious Alfa Romeo Tipo B.<\/p>\n

\u201cInitially I felt OK,\u201d said the elated victor. \u201cI was quite relaxed and slowed down later on. Then I saw people appearing in my mirrors so I had to give it everything and Paddins was definitely catching. He was trying!\u201d<\/p>\n
