Driving his Maserati Osca in the RAC Woodcote Trophy race for pre-1956 Sports Cars, Stirling was well placed in his class when he was forced to retire the car due to it being stuck in 4th gear. Stirling reckoned if it had stuck in 3rd he could probably have made it to the finish, but 4th was just not possible round the classic Silverstone Grand Prix course.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-796504\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon.jpg 720w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon-100x66.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon-360x240.jpg 360w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon-370x247.jpg 370w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/GPM-Matra-MS80-Ron-Maydon-293x195.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With Practice on Friday, there were a total of 22 races spread out over Saturday and Sunday.As well as the track action, there were further activities taking place on the Wellington straight in the centre of the circuit. The Slowly sideways Rally cars put on an excellent display of Rally driving and there was a display of De Dion Boulton Trikes, Junior Dragsters, Drag racing bikes and Hot Rod burn outs to keep the fans amused. The centre of the circuit was also filled with car club displays with hundreds of classic and exotic cars on show.<\/p>\n<p>The first round of the Italian Historic Car Cup was the dusk race for the Saturday evening, lasting for one hour. The entry for this first round lacked a few of the more interesting entries, with only one Ferrari 512S making Practice and it did not complete a single lap of the race. This left the small field to be dominated by the Abarth Osella PA1 pair of Tromans and Caine and Sytner and Streeton to lead the entire race between them. Victory finally going to Tromans and Caine after Sytner and Stretton had problems. The Abarth was three laps clear at the end of the hour.
