\"\"<\/a>The Glover Trophy was originally presented to the winner of the Richmond Formula One race, which was for contemporary Formula One machinery.<\/p>\n

At the Goodwood Revival 2010, this is a race for post-1961 Formula One and Formula One-based Tasman cars. While this year that meant cars from the 1.5-litre era of 1961-1965 such as ATS, Brabham, BRM, Cooper, Lola, Lotus and Scirocco, the Goodwood Revival 1999 race catered for ‘wingless’ 3-litre cars of a type that raced between 1966 and 1969.<\/p>\n

Former Grand Prix driver Richard Attwood drove a brilliantly measured race to win the Glover Trophy aboard his BRM P261. Frank Sytner led for most of the running, having defended robustly against fellow Lotus man Andy Middlehurst into Madgwick for the first time At half distance there was barely half-a-second between the two former touring car chargers, Sytner\u2019s older 24 model staying ahead of the newer monocoque 25 with millimetre precision as Alain Baillie\u2019s Cooper squabbled with Peter Horsman\u2019s Lotus 21, Mark Piercy\u2019s Lola Mk4 and Phil Keen\u2019s Lotus 24 with positions ever changing.<\/p>\n

A slow starting Attwood gradually picked off the squabbling quartet before arriving on the tail of the lead pair with five minutes left to run. Two minutes later he surged past Middlehurst with a perfectly timed run at Lavant. Moments later he was past Sytner at Fordwater, the top three places remaining the same to the chequer. Horsman was an eventual third with Baillie fifth and Piercy sixth.<\/p>\n

\u201cI knew going into the race that it would be tricky,\u201d admitted the winner Attwood. \u201cWe\u2019ve had engine problems with the car but to win is very satisfying. Frank and I have raced together several times so I knew I could trust him.\u201d<\/p>\n
