{"id":369512,"date":"2011-09-06T12:00:54","date_gmt":"2011-09-06T19:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/?p=36609"},"modified":"2024-01-10T12:18:42","modified_gmt":"2024-01-10T12:18:42","slug":"lime-rock-historic-festival-2011-results-and-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/lime-rock-historic-festival-2011-results-and-photos\/","title":{"rendered":"Lime Rock Historic Fall Festival (2011) &#8211; Results and Photos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Lime Rock Historic Festival 2011 was held September 2-5 at the 7-turn, 1.53 mile Lime Rock Park in Lime Rock, Connecticut.<\/p>\n<p>The 29th edition of the Lime Rock Vintage Festival saw 10 racing groups and a total of more than 300 vintage race cars, ranging from pre-war Alfa Romeos and Bugattis to all sports, racing and formula cars from the &#8217;50s, &#8217;60s and &#8217;70s. In addition, more than 100 MGs participated since Historic Festival 29 was the MG Club\u2019s Focus Event for 2011. This year&#8217;s event was the third for Event Chairman and Organizer Murray Smith, as well as Vintage Sports Car Club of America (VSCCA) as the sanctioning body.<\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia neurosurgeon Dr. Frederick Simeone was named &#8220;honored collector&#8221; for the 2011 races. Simeone brought four cars from his famed Simeone Foundation Museum: 1959 Aston Martin DBR1, 1954 Jaguar D-Type, 1934 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Spider by Castagna and a 1934 MG K3.<\/p>\n<p>Additional notable entrants included the Collier Collection&#8217;s 1971 Porsche 908\/3; 1955 Jaguar D-Type of David Ghose; 1935 Alfa Romeo 8C-35 of Peter Giddings; Bob Bodin&#8217;s 1958 Ferrari 250 GT TdF; Bruce Male&#8217;s 1959 Ferrari 250 GT TdF; 1959 Aston Martin DB4GT of James Freeman; 1959 Maserati T61 Birdcage of Anthony Wang; among others.<\/p>\n<p>Each racing class was on track four times, with close action throughout the weekend&#8217;s races. Weather was a factor on final day of racing on Monday, as the dry morning made way for a wet and wild afternoon. Fortunately all but one of the 22 races saw the green flag drop.<\/p>\n<p>Photographer Michael DiPleco documented the vintage racing action from the 2011 Lime Rock Historic Festival, offering a total of 155 images that not only show the field of historic race cars, but also the park-like setting of the Lime Rock road course.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Lime Rock Historic Festival 2011 &#8211; Final Monday Race Results<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Group 1, Pre-War Sports and Competition Cars, Early MGs<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Michael has shown his work at The Saratoga Auto Museum part of their Art Wall Project and the Barrett Art Center's PhotoWorks Show.
