{"id":369527,"date":"2011-09-19T10:30:12","date_gmt":"2011-09-19T14:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/?p=36893"},"modified":"2024-03-04T09:45:58","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T09:45:58","slug":"goodwood-revival-2011-madgwick-cup-race","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/goodwood-revival-2011-madgwick-cup-race\/","title":{"rendered":"Goodwood Revival (2011) &#8211; Madgwick Cup Race"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Madgwick Cup race at the 2011 Goodwood Revival was held 16-18 September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 Madgwick Cup featured sports-racing cars under 3-litres of a type that raced between 1960 and 1966. The Madgwick Cup is a name synonymous with Goodwood and the Revival, and this year\u2019s race offered a grid of svelte, lightweight Brabham, Elva and Lotus models.<\/p>\n<p>Dion Kremer took a brilliant win in the Madgwick Cup which kicked off Sunday\u2019s race card at the 2011 Goodwood Revival. Chris Goodwin led initially from the outside of the front row but his start was deemed to have been a bit too good and he was handed a 10-second penalty. But it all became academic as Paul Knapfield crashed his Elva at the chicane at the end of the opening lap which bought out the red flags.<\/p>\n<p>The race was restarted shortly thereafter but run to 20 minutes, with Kremer taking the lead from fellow Elva man Roger Wills with McLaren test driver Goodwin close behind in his Lotus 23B. Kremer soon built-up a sizable lead as Wills and Goodwin squabbled over second place. By half-distance Kremer led by 5.3-seconds but his good work was undone as he slowed for waved yellow flags at Woodcote after a Bobsy expired. Wills closed in as Goodwin gradually dropped back in a lonely third place but Kremer wasn\u2019t to be denied.
