The Freddie March Memorial Trophy race at the 2011 Goodwood Revival was held 16-18 September at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.<\/p>\n

The 2011 Freddie March Memorial Trophy was contested in the spirit of the Goodwood Nine-Hour races held from 1952 to 1955, featuring sports racing cars of that same period. Among others, the race saw fabulous classic sports-racing cars such as Jaguar C-type, Aston Martin DB3 and DB3S, Austin-Healey 100S, Ferrari 750, Allard and HWM.<\/p>\n

Terry Wood brought Saturday\u2019s 2011 Goodwood Revival programme to a close with victory in the Freddie March Memorial Trophy race. For much of the running pole-sitter James Cottingham appeared set for victory aboard his father David\u2019s Ferrari 857S, but the 20-something pole-sitter suffered the cruelest of luck in the closing stages.<\/p>\n

At the start it was Nick Wigley in Flavien Marcais\u2019 Cooper-Jaguar T33 who led, maintaining a small gap over Cottingham as Wood\u2019s RGS Atalanta and Derek Hood\u2019s Cooper-Jaguar gave chase with former BTCC man Patrick Watts a few seconds down in his Allard J2 in fifth. Wood and Hood had a brief moment at the kink before St Mary\u2019s four laps in which allowed Watts to gain two places which he would lose at the same spot once backmarkers came into play.<\/p>\n

Cottingham got a better exit to the chicane at the end of the fourth lap to out-drag Wigley. He proceeded to build up a healthy lead with Wigley gamely clinging on before his car\u2019s engine let go at St Mary\u2019s on the twelfth lap. Cottingham appeared set for victory ahead of the recovering Wood and Watts with former Group C2 racer Nick Adams keeping a watching brief in Adrian Hall\u2019s ex-Mike Anthony Lotus MkX. But at 20 minutes into the 25 minute race, Cottingham\u2019s pace began to slacken: on the penultimate tour he headed into the pit, which left Wood to claim an emotional win from Adams and Watts.<\/p>\n
