Participants in the 2011 edition of the &#8220;Race at the Base&#8221; were grouped into nine different race classes, each divided according to make, age and horsepower.The following race groups were seen on the track: 1952 \u2013 1959 Sports Racing and Production cars; 1962 \u2013 1972 Sports Racing and Formula Cars under 2000cc; 1969 \u2013 1980 Sports Racing and Formula Cars; 1953 \u2013 1966 Production cars under 2000cc; 1959 \u2013 1966 Production cars \u2013 Disc Brake; 1962 \u2013 1966 Productions cars over 2500cc; 1965 \u2013 1988 FIA Manufacturer Championship Cars; Historic NASCAR and 1966 \u2013 1972 Historic Trans-Am.<\/p>\n<p>Notable entries at the 2011 Fleet Week historic races included the 1957 Maserati 200Si of Ned Spieker; Tom Claridge&#8217;s 1953 Kurtis 500S; 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing of Steve Marx; Cameron Healy&#8217;s 1953 Cooper &#8220;Pooper&#8221; Porsche; 1962 Abarth Porsche of Ranson Webster; 1967 Porsche 910 of Thor Johnson; 1962 Cooper King Cobra of Donn Vickey; John Goodman&#8217;s 1972 Ferrari Sparling Special and the 1966 Ford GT40 P1061 of Jim Click.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 Coronado Speed Festival also celebrated the Centennial of Naval Aviation at its birthplace, Naval Air Station North Island.
