The race was divided into two stages: Friday, September 2, 2011 and Saturday, September 3, 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The modern rally harkens back to the classic competition of the same name that was originally staged from 1947 to 1956 as a race of speed, covering more than 300 km in a single day.The 2011 running saw participation of 175 teams (an increase of 40% over the previous edition), including 11 foreigners from Switzerland, Monaco, Belgium, United Kingdom, Germany, United States and Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The 64th running of the Gold Cup of the Dolomites saw the team of John Moceri and Maurizio Colpani take overall victory in their 1939 BMW 328 Sports. Second place went to the crew of Passanante Mario and Francesco Messina in a 1938 Fiat 508 C, followed by the 1933 Aston Martin Le Mans of Giuliano Cane and Joan Gallini.<\/p>\n<p>President of ACI Automobile Club Gianpaolo Bottacin commented, &#8220;The year saw a further increase in enrollments at both Italian and international.
