While Porsche won\u2019t be the only manufacturer offered for sale, it may be hard to notice anything else in the sea of Stuttgart sport racers.Headlined by the Drendel Family Collection\u2014widely considered the finest collection of turbocharged racing Porsches in private hands\u2014many of the auction results will likely produce world-record numbers. Highlights include a Porsche 917\/30, Porsche 935\/76, Porsche 962 and Porsche RSR Carrera Turbo 2.14, among many others. Each and every Drendel car is a piece of Stuttgart racing history and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. In addition to the Matthew Drendel Collection, other Porsche consignments include a 1955 550 RS Spyder, 1973 911 Carrera RS, 1967 906E, 1988 959 and several 356 \/ 911 variants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe result of well-developed connoisseurship and deep passion, Matthew Drendel built what has become the world\u2019s most significant private collection of turbocharged Porsches,\u201d says David Gooding, President and founder of Gooding and Company. \u201cIt\u2019s a very rare occurrence when a refined, single-marque collection of high-quality road and race cars is offered to the public. We feel privileged to have been selected to present the Drendel Family Collection in Amelia Island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Among the non-Porsches offered at the 2012 Gooding Amelia Island Auction are Mike Hawthorn\u2019s 1951 Ferrari 212 Inter Coupe, the ex-George Reed 1960 Chevrolet Corvette \u201cRace Rat&#8221;, a Zagato-bodied 1953 Fiat 8V and the 1948 Tucker Torpedo that was featured in the film <em>Tucker: The Man and His Dream<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, Gooding and Company offered 85 automobiles for sale, with 70 finding a new owner, reflecting a 82.4% sales rate. Total sales volume was $17,879,550, inclusive of buyer\u2019s premiums. The average price per car sold was $255,422. Previews will be held on Thursday, March 8th from 9am to 6pm, and Friday, March 9th from 9am to 11am. An auction catalog for $75 admits two to the viewing and auction.
