The Freddie March Memorial Trophy race at the 2012 Goodwood Revival was held the evening of Friday, September 14th at the Goodwood Motor Circuit in West Sussex, England.<\/p>\n

To mark the 60th anniversary of the first Goodwood Nine Hours race, this year\u2019s Freddie March Memorial Trophy was a 90-minute two-driver race into twilight, for cars of a type that contested the legendary race.It featured a fabulous collection of classic sports-racing cars such as Jaguar C-Type, Aston Martin DB3 and DB3S, Austin-Healey 100S, Ferrari 750, Allard and HWM, among others.<\/p>\n

The 2012 Goodwood Revival race card got off to a flier on Friday evening as Anthony Reid set a blistering pace aboard Nigel Webb\u2019s Jaguar C-Type. The start of the Freddie March Memorial Trophy race saw former Formula Three and saloon car star Reid blast into the lead as the flag dropped, with the Jaguar C-Type of John Pearson making a scorching start from the third row. By lap two he was running second but was unable to make inroads on Reid who held an eleven second lead going into the third tour. Impressing greatly was John Ure aboard Peter Mann\u2019s diminutive Cooper-Bristol Mk2. Ure gamely clung on to the pack squabbling over the lower podium places, Reid having extended his lead to more than a minute by half-distance.<\/p>\n

However, Reid\u2019s rousing display of car control was all for naught. Shortly before pitting to change places with the car\u2019s owner Nigel Webb, his Jaguar slowed dramatically. It later transpired that it was stuck in fourth gear. Following a prolonged driver change, Webb ventured trackside in ninth place.<\/p>\n

Man on the move, however, was GT racer Alex Buncombe who flung Derek Hood\u2019s ex-Fangio Jaguar C-type around on its bumpstops, assuming the lead at three-quarter distance. He and team-mate John Young came home the victors despite faltering headlights. Second place went to Mann\u2019s Cooper, with Nick Wrigley impressing after taking over from the rapid Ure.<\/p>\n
