The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2013 will be held Sunday, August 18th on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California.
\nThe 63rd annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin, the 50th anniversaries of Lamborghini and the Porsche 911, in addition to honoring Custom Lincoln, Simplex, Vanvooren Coachwork, BMW 507 and French Motorcycles.<\/p>\n

\n“It’s exciting to see the many automobiles that people have worked so passionately to preserve and restore and hope to share with others here,” said Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance Chairman Sandra Button. “The success of this event depends on the superb quality of automobiles and motorcycles that our participants bring to our show field.”
\nEntry applications for the 2013 event were due in January and are now being reviewed and vetted. The Concours Selection Committee meets at the end of March to determine which cars will receive an invitation to the annual competition. Most applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by mid-April. Late entry applications can still be submitted, but space in many classes is already limited. To request an application, send an inquiry offering some basic information about your car to entries@pebblebeachconcours.net<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance 2013 – Featured Marques<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Lincoln<\/strong> — After Ford purchased Lincoln in 1922, Edsel Ford took a marque well known for mechanical excellence and defined it with superior styling and elegant custom coachwork. Long one of America’s elite luxury cars, Lincoln served as the official conveyance for presidents from Franklin D. Roosevelt to John F. Kennedy to George W. Bush. The show field will focus on one-off custom-bodied Lincolns.
\nSimplex<\/strong> — Among the rarest of early twentieth century marques, just 48 Simplex automobiles are known to survive. Intended for only the most prestigious clientele, these chassis, which sold for the outrageous price of about $5,000, were bodied by the best coachbuilders of their day. The marque later merged with Crane, replacing its sporting cars with a more luxury image.
\nVanvooren<\/strong> — Early in its history, Carrosserie Vanvooren was licensed to build Weymann fabric-bodied cars, but soon developed its own elegant and refined French designs that have stood the test of time. Vanvooren coachwork graced all the best marques of the day — Hispano-Suiza, Bugatti, Rolls-Royce, Bentley and Delahaye. It also collaborated on cutting-edge creations, such as the Corniche prototype done with designer Georges Paulin.
\nLamborghini<\/strong> — After making a fortune building tractors, Ferruccio Lamborghini determined to pursue the perfect grand tourer, founding Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. in 1963. The Concours celebrates the company’s 50th anniversary with a display of the significant one-off creations that have long embodied the term “supercar.”
\nAston Martin<\/strong> — From early prototypes like Coal Scuttle, Bunny and A3 to postwar models badged with the initials of entrepreneur David Brown to the most modern creations, Aston Martins have proven their sporting capabilities with race wins. The Concours celebrates the marque’s centennial – as well as the 90th anniversary of Le Mans — with a focused display of Aston Martins that have raced that storied course.
\nPorsche 911<\/strong> — Only very rarely does a model that is celebrating its 50th anniversary have the ongoing ability to raise genuine excitement over its latest offerings in the showroom and to score record-setting victories on the racecourse. But the Porsche 911 does exactly that. The Concours is pairing with the Porsche Museum to exhibit some of the cars that have made this model iconic.
\nBMW 507<\/strong> — The BMW 507 debuted to great acclaim in 1955, but the economics of producing this sporting roadster led to its all-too-early demise. Just over 200 of these cars survive, and each is treasured. The only custom-bodied BMW 507s along with other superlative examples of this model will be showcased.
\nFrench Motorcycles<\/strong> — For the fifth straight year, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will include motorcycles, focusing this time on the creations of French manufacturers such as Motob\u00e9cane, Koehler-Escoffier, Monotrace, Gnome et Rh\u00f4ne, Majestic and, of course, Peugeot.<\/p>\n
