The first Can-Am race took place at Mont-Tremblant back in 1966 and the winner was John Surtees, the man who would become that year&#8217;s Can-Am champion. The Lola T70 Spyder that Surtees raced that day will compete again at this year&#8217;s event along with a host of other great cars from the series.<br \/>\nGeorge Follmer, &#8220;America&#8217;s Champion&#8221;, drove the John Mecom Lola T70 to fifth place in that inaugural Can-Am event. Follmer would go on to win the Can-Am Championship in 1972 driving Penske\u2019s mighty Porsche 917\/10, and even later took victory in the Can-Am race at Mont-Tremblant in 1978. He is one of only a handful of drivers to have competed in both the first and second-generation Can-Am series, and is the only driver to have won in both. Follmer was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1999.<br \/>\n\u201cMont-Tremblant has always been one of my favorite race tracks,&#8221; said Follmer. &#8220;Maybe that has to do to with the fact that I\u2019ve won both Cam-Am and Formula 5000 races there! The French\/Canadian atmosphere with HMSA\u2019s race sanction promises to be truly Le Sommet des L\u00e9gendes. It&#8217;s a great race track that is fun and challenging. Racing on it the first time in the 1966 Cam-Am, and many times after, produced great memories.&#8221;<br \/>\nIn addition to the thundering Can-Am racers, the 2013 HMSA Sommet des L\u00e9gendes will also feature a rare gathering of Bugatti Grand Prix cars for an exclusive race that also kicks off a week-long Bugatti holiday in the Mont-Tremblant area.
