\"\"<\/a>The Historic Motor Sports Association (HMSA) and Al Unser Jr. are teaming up to provide a series of workshops designed specifically for racing drivers and crew who wish to extract the maximum from man and machine. The first workshop will be held June 28-30, 2013 at the Portland Historic Races.<\/p>\n

The cornerstone of the workshop is the relationship between the driver, car and crew. Participants in the workshop will learn how to better communicate and “listen” to their race car.<\/p>\n

Unser Jr.’s years of experience at the highest level of the sport brings insight to the craft of racing that no other motorsports school provides. The Team Unser Workshop is not a school to learn how to race; it is a workshop designed for drivers with race experience.<\/p>\n

Joining Unser Jr., will be his long time mechanic, Mike Arnold. The two have worked together for most of Unser Jr.’s career. Arnold will bring a fresh perspective about how a driver communicates with the crew, what he needs and what the car requires in order to go faster.<\/p>\n

“Understanding what a car needs and then being able to clearly describe that to your crew is key to going fast,\u201d said Unser Jr. \u201cOnly then can you make intelligent decisions on what needs to be done.”<\/p>\n

The language of speed begins with learning the best practices in-car preparation, pre-race setup, and driver fitness, none of which is restricted to formula or other purpose-built race cars. This is applicable to all types of historic and contemporary race cars. The next step in the learning process consists of track procedures, planning, testing, vehicle dynamics, and “thinking as one” with the car and crew. The workshop will touch on post-race activities, debriefs and record keeping.<\/p>\n

Finally, participants in the HMSA workshop will spend the weekend with Unser Jr. and Arnold. They will get to know them in an intimate environment unlike any other. Once a workshop participant joins Team Unser, they will become a lifelong member of an exclusive group of motorsports enthusiasts.
