This year&#8217;s Spring Club event featured a strong field of approximately 175 historic race cars circling the 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course in Monterey, California. Saturday\u2019s overcast morning burnt off to a clear bright day by 11am, while on Sunday heavy fog hung around until nearly noon. This &#8216;Monterey Sunshine&#8217; is reflected in a number of the images.<\/p>\n<p>HMSA events feature historic production cars built through 1966 and purpose-built Formula, Sports Racing and IMSA cars built through 1984. According to <a title=\"HMSA Overview\" href=\"http:\/\/hmsausa.com\/events\/overview.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HMSA<\/a>, club event weekends are, &#8220;semi-competitive with nothing to be won except great experiences, plenty of track time and the camaraderie of fellow members.&#8221;Further, &#8220;Run groups are arranged by speed potential and age of the cars entered for a particular event. Although wheel-to-wheel racing is common, drivers are encouraged to respect the historic value of the machines.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Notable entrants at the 2014 HMSA Spring Club Historic Races included ex-Arciero Brothers 1962 Lotus 23 of Jim Roth; Erickson Shirley&#8217;s Costin-bodied Lister Jaguar; Dennis Singleton&#8217;s 1974 Porsche 911 RSR 3.0; Tom Claridge&#8217;s beautiful 1965 Crossle C9S; Ed Matsuishi&#8217;s 1965 Porsche 911; 1979 Ex-Group 44 Triumph TR8 driven by Jay Moyes; Henry Schmitt&#8217;s 1997 BMW E36 M3 GTR; Jeff Gerkin&#8217;s 1973 BMW CSL 3.0; Brian Groza&#8217;s 1975 Sauber C4; 1954 Ferrari 750 Monza Spider Scaglietti of Scott Drnek; Jerry Rosenstock&#8217;s 1961 Alfa Romeo SZ; 1983 March 83G driven by David Andrews; Tom Malloy&#8217;s 1958 Lister Knobbly; 1960 Porsche Abarth driven by MPH; ex-Team Lotus Eleven of Stan Anderes and the trio of Shelby Cobras owned by Lynn, Steve and Tim Park. Prather Racing brought a truck full of Austin-Healey Sprites, MG Midgets and a mean-looking MG A.
