The Bonhams Quail Lodge 2014 Auction will be held August 14th and August 15th on the grounds of the Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, California. Held in connection with the Quail Motorsport Gathering, the 17th annual Bonhams sale held during Monterey Classic Car Week will feature nearly 120 vehicles.<\/p>\n

A 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO<\/a> will headline the 2014 Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction. Serial number 3851 GT was built on September 11, 1962, the 19th of 36 250 GTO Berlinettas built. It was delivered new to the leading French racing driver Jo Schlesser, to be co-driven by himself and French ski champion Henri Oreiller in the 1962 Tour de France. The pair finished 2nd overall behind the Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta of Andre Simon and Maurice Dupeyron. In 1965 a young Fabrizio Violati bought the aging GTO. For almost 40 more years, Violati enjoyed his Ferrari 250 GTO in classic car and historic racing events \u2013 and it became one of the last 250 GTOs to compete regularly right into the 2000s, maintained in Violati\u2019s Maranello Rosso Collection until his death in 2010. Offered at no reserve, the GTO will undoubtedly become the most valuable automobile ever sold at auction when it crosses the block during Monterey Classic Car Week.<\/p>\n

In addition to the GTO, Bonhams will also offer another nine of the Maranello Rosso Ferraris at Quail Lodge, all sold without reserve. To accommodate the interest in these cars Bonhams expanded this year’s Quail Lodge sale to add a Thursday, August 14 sale at 5:00pm solely for the Maranello Rosso Ferraris.<\/p>\n
