1962 Ferrari 250 GTO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Bonhams Quail Lodge 2014 Auctions were held Thursday, August 14th and Friday, August 15th on the grounds of the Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley, California, resulting in $108 million in total sales and a 92% sell-through rate.<\/p>\n

Held in connection with the Quail Motorsport Gathering, the 17th Bonhams sale held during Monterey Classic Car Week featured the 10-car Maranello Rosso Collection on Thursday and more than 100 vehicles on Friday.<\/p>\n

The top result at the 2014 Bonhams Monterey Week auction went to the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO that sold for $38,115,000. The sale price for the GTO broke the all-time auction record set only last year by the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R that Bonhams sold for $29,650,095 at their Goodwood Festival of Speed sale.<\/p>\n

Robert Brooks, Chairman of Bonhams, said, \u201cIt\u2019s been a genuine privilege to represent this outstanding car and we are absolutely delighted. We\u2019ve always maintained that we would exceed the current world record and that the car would bring between $30-$40-million and the GTO did just that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other cars from the Maranello Rosso Collection of ten Ferraris also sold well for a combined total $65,945,000. (See Maranello Rosso Collection Auction Report<\/a>).<\/p>\n

After Thursday night\u2019s record-breaking sale of the GTO, Bonhams went on to set several more records for Maserati, Mini, Napier, Rolls-Royce, Speedwell and Ferrari.<\/p>\n

In addition to the record-breaking sale of the GTO, Bonhams broke an additional seven Ferrari model records, including a 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB \u2013 Bonhams\u2019 catalog cover car \u2013 that sold for $3,850,000 for the steel-bodied, non-competition, 3-carburetor model record. Further notables included the 1958 Ferrari 250 GT Series 1 Cabriolet that sold for $6,820,000, the 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS\/4 Daytona Spider that made $2,640,000, a 1993 Ferrari F40 LM at $2,200,000 and a 1967 Ferrari 330 GTC that brought $1,017,500.<\/p>\n

Further results included the 1912 Speedwell 12-J Speed Car \u2013 the only Speed Car in existence \u2013 that surpassed estimates to achieve $869,000, the 1962 Austin Mini Beach Car that made $181,500, more than any customer Mini sold at auction and the 1963 Rolls-Royce Phantom V Touring Limousine that belonged to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll that sold to an American collector for a record $396,000.<\/p>\n

Records were also made for models from Maserati and Napier when a 1967 Maserati Ghibli 4.7-Liter Coupe realized $385,500 and its convertible counterpart, a 1969 Maserati Ghibli 4.7-Liter Spider, achieved $814,000, while the 1908 Napier Type 23A 45 HP 7-Seater Touring sold to a American collector for $1,034,000.<\/p>\n
