The Bonhams Scottsdale 2015 Auction was held Thursday, January 15th at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona, resulting in nearly $24.8 million in total sales and an 87% sell-through rate.<\/p>\n

James Knight, Bonhams Group Motoring Director, said, \u201cYear on year our auction here in Scottsdale has grown in both reputation and results. Our selection is focused but diverse, representing the very best of the car collecting hobby, and we\u2019re very pleased with the results and with the strong support demonstrated by clients from around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The top result at Bonhams’ 4th annual Arizona Auction Week event went to the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB Competizione Coupe that sold for $9,405,000, setting a new auction record for the model. The 11th of twelve built, chassis number 09079 was class winner at the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours, 1969 Spa-Francorchamps 1000KM and 1969 Imola 500KM under Scuderia Filipinetti. More recently, this Competizione Scaglietti-bodied 275 GTB has won several honors at events, including the Pebble Beach Concours, and has participated in Le Mans Classic, Silverstone Classic and Tour Auto.<\/p>\n

Another notable result was the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Coupe formerly owned by Lord O\u2019Neill, Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, that made $1,375,000. Another Teutonic gem that was the focus of interest was the silver 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster with red interior that achieved $1,237,500.<\/p>\n

Representing veteran and vintage cars, a Humber and a Kissel realized new world auction records for their marques. The British-built 1904 Humber 8.5hp Twin-Cylinder Two-Seater made $148,500 while the American-built 1926 Kissel 6-55 Gold Bug Speedster sold for $286,000.<\/p>\n

Other top results came from an original 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 that had been in single-family ownership since new that sold to an American collector for $1,017,500, a 1953 Mercedes-Benz 300 S Coupe that achieved $511,500 and a pair of Ferrari 512 BBi models, a 1982 and a 1984, made more than double their pre-auction estimates with the former making a new auction record when it sold for $357,500.<\/p>\n
