1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet sold for $6,380,000<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The RM Sotheby’s Amelia Island 2015 auction was held Saturday, March 14th on the grounds of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Amelia Island, Florida, resulting in $60,360,050 in total sales and an updated (see below) 100 percent sell-through rate. This result represents not only the highest total ever for a sale held during the Amelia Island week, but also exceeds the combined total of all other auctions this week.<\/p>\n

The top result of the day and of the 2015 Amelia Island Concours d\u2019Elegance week was the 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica SWB Cabriolet, chassis no. 1945 SA, that achieved $6,380,000 to set a new record for the model at auction. Proceeds from car\u2019s sale will benefit the consignor\u2019s charity for the education of children.<\/p>\n

The 2015 Amelia Island Concours sale was the first RM Sotheby\u2019s event since RM Auctions and Sotheby\u2019s formed a strategic partnership in February. RM’s 17th annual Amelia Island sale included 13 results that exceeded $1,000,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were thrilled to present as significant a car as the 400 Superamerica here at Amelia Island\u201d, said Gord Duff, Car Specialist, RM Sotheby\u2019s. \u201cBoth the importance of the car and the success of RM Sotheby\u2019s international team in uniting collectors with the world\u2019s finest automobiles is reflected in its result. The outstanding sale total is a sign of the ever-expanding market for blue-chip collector cars, with bidders hailing from no fewer than 22 countries, of which 22 percent were new to RM Sotheby\u2019s.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additional lots garnering strong prices included the 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB\/4 Daytona Spider, realizing $3,300,000; a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTC\/4, bringing a record $495,000, and the “Condo Find” 1971 Ferrari 365 GTB\/4 Daytona Berlinetta, achieving $770,000.<\/p>\n

Notable highlights also included the rare, six-speed manual 2007 Ferrari 599 GTB, which nearly tripled its pre-sale estimate at $682,000, a record for the model. A pair of Ferrari 512 models also exceeded expectations, with the 1995 F512 M selling for $462,000 and the 1980 512 BB garnering $418,000.<\/p>\n

Ferrari wasn\u2019t the only high performing marque of the sale, with prices for Porsche 911s continuing to rise. Amongst numerous examples, a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7 Touring sold for $891,000, a 1988 911 Turbo \u2018Slant Nose\u2019 Cabriolet for $363,000, and a 1979 911 Turbo brought $253,000. Japanese collectibles also continue to make waves in the collector car market, with the 1970 Nissan Fairlady Z 432 surpassing its estimate to bring a record-breaking $253,000.<\/p>\n
