Intended as the successor to the\u00a0Porsche 930, the car did not get past the prototype stage.<\/p>\n<p>Porsche intended to create a more powerful, range topping model, based loosely upon the 911. The 969 was to feature a hugely powerful\u00a0twin-turbocharged engine, and was to pick up where the\u00a0Porsche 959\u00a0left off, using much of the supercar&#8217;s technology. Styling consisted of circular 959-esque headlamps, with the traditional 911 roofline, finished off with a bespoilered tail end, hiding the intercoolers for the turbochargers.<\/p>\n<p>However, a lack of profits and money to develop the car meant that it, along with the equally ambitious 989, were terminated. The management of Porsche became increasingly tetchy over new projects due to a sudden turn around in profits, and a cease-fire was placed on all projects apart from the\u00a0Porsche 993.<\/p>\n<p>The sole prototype &#8211; which consisted of a modified 911 and a clay styling buck &#8211; was destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 1988, Porsche produced a\u00a0two-door\u00a0called the\u00a0969, based upon the bodystyling of the 911.
