The Tail of the Dragon, Deals Gap, Hwy 129, or also known as one of America\u2019s most popular \u201cdriving\u201d rodes. We\u2019re talking about 318 turns in 11 miles.<\/p>\n<p>Disclaimer, this road and others mentioned in this article are to be shown respect, for your own safety.<\/p>\n<p>Today we\u2019ll cover some of the things you\u2019ll need to know before you visit the Dragon, cause let\u2019s face it, you\u2019re going.<\/p>\n<p>The Dragon is located on the Tennessee\/North Carolina state line, bordering the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.<\/p>\n<h2>So the Dragon\u2019s Got Some Amazing Roads, Then?<\/h2>\n<p>Yes! I\u2019ll share a list of my favorite roads, but as you will soon come to realize, there are way too many roads to list.<\/p>\n<p>While you are driving on the Dragon, you can also have your picture taken by one of the many road-side photographers like the notorious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.killboy.com\/\">Darryl \u201cKillboy\u201d Cannon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The road maps in and around the dragon look like maps you would get at a Six Flags or any other amusement park with wicked awesome roller coasters, like the one below:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-385229 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/RideMePoster_2015.jpg\" alt=\"Tail of the Dragon route\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Image credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/tailofthedragon.com\/\">Tail of the Dragon<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Best Driving Roads in the Area<\/h2>\n<p>Below is a list of roads to tour in addition to Tail of the Dragon. From breathtaking waterfall views to a refreshing swim in the lake. Though there are endless activities to do in the area, here are some of my favorites.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trailforks.com\/trails\/dragon-s-tail\/\">Mountain Biking<\/a> &#8211; The Dragon and surrounding area are home to dozens of biking trails. If you forget your bike, you can always rent one for your trip to the area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alltrails.com\/trail\/us\/tennessee\/tail-of-the-dragon?u=m\">Hiking<\/a> &#8211; There are tons of hiking trails located in the area for you to enjoy. You will be getting some of the most breathtaking views that are worth the hike.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/grahamchamber.com\/things-to-do\/outfitters\/\">Boating<\/a> &#8211; If you are looking for some relaxing time on the open water, you can always rent a boat! From white water rafting to fishing for walleye, there are plenty of options to choose from.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Prepare for the Worst and Hope for the Best!<\/h2>\n<p>The Dragon is home to some of the world\u2019s best, and often most challenging driving roads. Due to this fact, auto collisions in the Dragon and surrounding areas are not uncommon. You must ensure that you have an action plan in the event of an accident.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to having all Emergency Contact information on you at all times, you should also have a \u201ccheck-in\u201d contact at least once daily.<\/p>\n<p>The reality is, the roads in and around the Dragon are often on the sides of mountains, making it very difficult to see if a vehicle has left the road. Letting someone know where you are headed each day (even if that person isn\u2019t on the trip with you) can ensure you are quickly found in the unlikely case something happens.<\/p>\n<p>On the Dragon, collisions do happen thus making it important to have your bases covered by using something like a dashcam in the case of an accident.
