It&#8217;s not the most powerful, not the fastest, nor the most luxurious, but what the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/2002-honda-nsx-coupe\/\">Honda NSX<\/a> is, is <em>special<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It is a car that was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/acura-nsx-senna-helped-shape-legend\/\">developed and tested with cooperation from Ayrton Senna<\/a>, one of the great, if not the greatest, Formula 1 drivers of all time. It was the first supercar that was built entirely out of aluminum alloy. It was the first car with Honda&#8217;s now-infamous VTEC in the USA.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, Honda made special editions, as many supercar makers are wont to do. There was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/2002-honda-nsx-type-s\/\">NSX Type-S<\/a>, a lighter-weight version of the lightweight NSX. And for the truly hardcore, there was the NSX-R.<\/p>\n<p><iframe class=\"zeen-lazy-load-base zeen-lazy-load\" title=\"Honda NSX-R Restoration\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"about:blank\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BiXa0gTnw8I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><noscript><iframe title=\"Honda NSX-R Restoration\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BiXa0gTnw8I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/2002-honda-nsx-r-guide-history-specifications-performance\/\">NA2 generation NSX-R<\/a>, which had the larger C32B V6 engine with 290 BHP, and a six-speed manual transmission, was the rarest of the NSX&#8217;s made. Only 150 were ever built between 1997 and 2005, and of those, only about 120 are known to still be on the road.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, with that much time out there, carving up tracks, running epic canyons, and generally being a badass car, things start to wear down. So when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.contempoconcept.com\/\">Contempo Concept out of Hong Kong<\/a> was asked to restore an NSX-R to a glorious factory condition, they were only too happy to!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368769\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368769\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-368769\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Capture0-7.jpg\" alt=\"Honda NSX-R restoration\" width=\"1919\" height=\"917\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-368769\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Original grey over an aftermarket red<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>They start off with repainting the brake calipers their original factory grey.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368770\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368770\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-368770\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Capture1-7.jpg\" alt=\"Honda NSX-R restoration\" width=\"1920\" height=\"919\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-368770\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Painting with the tire mounted to prevent the tire machine from chipping the paint. Brilliant!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Following that, the wheels get painted back to a stock white, and are polished and paint sealed to keep a glorious sheen.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368771\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368771\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-368771\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Capture2-7.jpg\" alt=\"Honda NSX-R restoration\" width=\"1920\" height=\"928\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-368771\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bath time!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The entire car then gets a deep, thorough shower with gentle foam and sheepskin mitts. Only the best for one of the greatest drivers cars ever made!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368772\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368772\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption fully washed, and the biggest advantage of using all-aluminum everywhere is evident in that there is no rust, at all, in or on the car.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368774\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Look at all those wires!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The interior is where most of the restoration takes place, as an aftermarket stereo, alarm system, and other items were spliced into the factory wiring harness.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368775\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368775\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img height=\"915\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-368775\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The aftermarket electronics removed from the car<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After carefully removing all the aftermarket extras, the interior is gone over with a fine-tooth comb and a vacuum cleaner to get all the debris and dirt out.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368778\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368778\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-368778\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Steam cleaning to disinfect and revitalize<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>All the dash panels, door panels, and stock items are given a thorough steam clean.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368777\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368777\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-368777\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nothing quite like a hot-water extraction to get all that dirt out<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As well, the carpets get a vigorous foam shampoo and hot-water dirt-lifting deep clean.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368779\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368779\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-368779\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/Capture10-1.jpg\" alt=\"Honda NSX-R restoration\" width=\"1919\" height=\"920\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-368779\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shiiiiiny&#8230;.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As part of the restoration, Contempo Concept was able to order in new door seals, a new center console, new handbrake, new shift knob, new brakes and pads, and all of it OEM from Honda.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368780\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-368780\" style=\"width: 1024px\" put back together, a brand new Momo wheel is bolted into place, and the titanium shift knob is screwed onto the gear stick to complete the project.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_368781\"
