The Lotus Emira has been in the works for sometime<\/a>, and can trace its genesis back to the period when the British automaker announced that its “Type 131”<\/em> project had kicked off. Over time, we slowly began to see a clearer picture of what the mysterious new car was shaping up to be.<\/p>\n

First, it was given an official name\u2014the Emira\u2014and the company stated, in no uncertain terms, that it would not\u00a0<\/em>be an EV or even a hybrid<\/strong>. This is despite Lotus launching a very public campaign to produce a fully-electric roster of cars going forward, at around the same time.<\/p>\n

Indeed that can only mean that the Emira will certainly be petrol-powered, and indeed it would also be the last Lotus of its kind. We’ve recently learned it will be a largely familiar one at that, with a mid-mounted 400 hp 3.5L supercharged V6 Toyota engine<\/strong> one of two options for sending power to the rear wheels.<\/p>\n

Something perhaps a little different this time around, would be the 2.0L turbocharged inline-4 engine<\/strong>\u2014supplied by AMG\u2014which will be the default powerplant on the more economical Emira trims that will be available after the initial release phase (exclusively consisting of V6 models).<\/p>\n
