Bugatti set a world record top speed run of 304.772 mph a while ago with Andy Wallace behind the wheel, and while that car was a factory prototype, during the 110th-anniversary celebration, Bugatti unveiled they would create the Chiron Super Sport 300+ as an homage … but there was a catch, only 30 fortunate clients would be able to obtain this very special edition of the Chiron, finished in exposed carbon fiber with Jet Orange accents … and the final one has just been delivered to the customer.<\/p>\n

Christophe Piochon, President of Bugatti Automobiles, said: “In the long history of Bugatti, there are vehicles that come to define their era. The Type 35 transformed motor racing, the Type 41 Royale redefined opulence, the Type 57 SC set new standards for design, and now there is the Chiron Super Sport 300+, hitting speeds that were long thought to be impossible in a production car. Its achievements have secured it legendary status in the Bugatti history books, and we\u2019re delighted to have seen all 30 examples of the Chiron Super Sport 300+ delivered to some of our most passionate customers.”<\/em><\/p>\n

It took Bugatti a thorough re-design of the famous 8-Liter W16 engine to achieve a never-before-seen top speed of 304.773 mph (490.484 km\/h) for the record attempt, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ just couldn’t do with the standard 1,500 PS from the original Chiron, so they found another 100 PS, but even this relatively small increase in power required a completely new thermal management system for both the engine and the gearbox, but it didn’t stop there, this kind of performance also asks for bespoke software to control the engine, gearbox, powertrain, and quad turbochargers.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And then you get to the point you’re building a car with 1,600 PS capable of driving over 300 mph or 490 km\/h, and you realize that the already very smooth and aerodynamic body design of the Bugatti Chiron won’t do, so for the Chiron Super Sport 300+ they went for a famous ‘longtail’\u00a0<\/em>by adding about 25 cm to the rear of the car so the air takes longer to flow over the body, which effectively reduces aerodynamic stall by more than 40%, add the vertical fins, or air curtains, added to the front spoiler of the Super Sport 300+ to ‘direct’ air pressure over the side and air vents at the wheel arches and behind the front wheels to move excess pressure away from each wheel.<\/p>\n

At the speeds a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ can reach, every little weight saving is critical, so there is a lot of lightweight carbon fiber being used on this limited-edition world record homage, like the visible carbon fiber body, but such details as the windscreen wiper being made from the same material really set this black beauty apart, and the very light but strong at the same time wheels finished in ‘Nocturne’ a bespoke shade of black, made from magnesium alloy, add the Bugatti ‘Macaron’ logo made of genuine silver and black enamel to get that feeling of extremely exclusivity as if only 30 units worldwide doesn’t scream ‘rare’ enough on its own.<\/p>\n

So if you were looking for a Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, and you missed getting on the list for one of the 30 units, you might be able to convince one of the owners to part with their unit, probably at a steep premium, but owing such a rare car will be worth it, each one of these really is a unique piece of automotive history as well as one of the fastest and most technically advanced cars in the world.<\/p>\n
