{"id":425874,"date":"2022-12-26T19:36:26","date_gmt":"2022-12-26T19:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/?p=425874"},"modified":"2024-04-15T01:23:22","modified_gmt":"2024-04-15T01:23:22","slug":"jay-leno-on-the-mclaren-artura","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/jay-leno-on-the-mclaren-artura\/","title":{"rendered":"VIDEO: Jay Leno on the McLaren Artura"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m sure we all remember the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/mclaren-p1-ultimate-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McLaren P1<\/a>, a hybrid supercar, which some called a hypercar, that was part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/the-holy-trinity-of-hypercars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holy Trinity<\/a> at the time of launch, together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/porsche-918-spyder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Porsche 918<\/a> Spyder and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/ferrari-laferrari-ultimate-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari LaFerrari<\/a>, the McLaren P1 took the development of hybrid power from their 2010 Formula One KERS to their in-house MSO department, the McLaren Special Operations, to see how the F1 technology could be put into a road car, and they didn&#8217;t stop with the KERS on-demand hybrid power, but the P1 also came with DRS (Drag Reduction System) and their IPAS (Integrated Power Assist System).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-397311\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1.jpg 1920w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1-100x56.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1-770x433.jpg 770w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1-293x165.jpg 293w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/first-customer-mclaren-p1-1-1400x788.jpg 1400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The result was the McLaren P1 powered by a relatively small 3.8-Liter V8 engine with dual turbochargers that delivered 727 hp, a figure raised by 177 hp from the single electric motor for a total output of 903 hp, all sent to the rear wheels only. With a limited production run of just 375 units, the P1 sold out even before the development was completed, McLaren was still fine-tuning their prototypes at that time, with an MSRP around the $1 million mark, today we have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/mclaren-arturo-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McLaren Artura<\/a>, the first hybrid production car for McLaren, and while this time the MSRP is below $300,000, but while the Artura is probably a further development of what MSO learned from the P1, this time we only get a 3-Liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine with 577 hp coupled to a 94 hp electric motor for a total output of 671 hp, still an impressive number, but far from the nearly 1,000 hp of the P1 hypercar.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at
