<\/a><\/p>\nWhile not a racecar driver or team owner, Clegg was influential in that he was the motorsport representative for Mintex clutches and brake linings. As such, Clegg not only played a significant role in the development of disc brakes, but also helped many British teams achieve success at Le Mans and in Formula One. This involvement also afforded Clegg unrivaled access to all the teams and drivers of the \u201950s and early \u201960s. Fortunately, for all of us, he was also something of a shutterbug and carried his camera with him to all the races.<\/p>\n
When Clegg died seven years ago, he left behind a stunning collection of early color photographs to his close friend Guy Loveridge. \u201cMintex Man: One man\u2019s behind-the-scenes view of Grand Prix & sports car racing during the 1950\u2019s & early \u201960s\u201d is a collection of 100 of Clegg\u2019s color photos along with descriptive narratives by the authors.<\/p>\n
The beautifully reproduced, large prints show a surprisingly intimate and casual side to some of the legends of the European postwar period, including Ascari, Hawthorn, Fangio, Moss, Collins and Parnell. Because Clegg was considered both a teammate and friend to the Aston Martin, Jaguar and Ferrari teams during this period, his photos have a closeness and informality that is rarely seen. This intimacy combined with the use of color film at a time when black & white was still the preferred medium, makes this collection a special treat indeed.<\/p>\n
