Sir Stirling Moss returned to the Worcestershire Hillclimb venue at Shelsley Walsh for the first time in 53 years, the scene of some of his early wins and stirring drives in a Cooper 500 cc machine in the early post-war years.<\/p>\n
The Midland Automobile Club organized a round of the British Hillclimb Championship on June 2nd and included a number of historic classes as well as an invitation class for important historic Coopers of the past. A dozen Coopers were demonstrated and made timed runs at the venerable hillclimb site in the English countryside.<\/p>\n
Moss drove a Cooper Mk VIII, an HWM Jaguar and a C-Type Jaguar, and expressed his delight at being able to run again at a place that was very significant for post-war competition in Britain before the circuits were back in action. A number of important drivers had their early experience on the hills as well as in the diminutive 500 cc machines, many built by the late John Cooper.<\/p>\n
