{"id":459851,"date":"2002-12-01T03:04:32","date_gmt":"2002-12-01T11:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=109226"},"modified":"2024-02-22T16:57:40","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T16:57:40","slug":"where-eagles-dare-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/where-eagles-dare-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Where Eagles Dare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dan Gurney recently announced at this year\u2019s U.S. Grand Prix at Indianapolis, that he is very close to finalizing a deal for the famed Eagle to return to Formula One as part of an All-American Formula One team as early as the 2003 season.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Gurney, \u201cThe time is perfect for this to happen. It\u2019s going to require certain dominoes to start falling pretty quickly, but it would be a \u00admonumental situation. One of the keys right now is engines. We have a commitment \u2013 not a contract \u2013 from Ford Cosworth, and we could have a signed contract in a couple of weeks\u2019 time. If we have our way, we\u2019ll see you here next September.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Gurney added, \u201cBob Balachowski and Russ Olsen have a very good business plan that will stand up to scrutiny to run a good business, and they\u2019ve done a lot of the planning and leg work. We will end up with major American sponsorship that wants to get global racing exposure and business.\u201d While much speculation abounds, early indications seem to point to Gurney\u2019s son, Alex, and CART driver Bryan Herta as front-running candidates for driving positions, as well as Phil Hill\u2019s son, Derek.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Interestingly, Gurney also stated that, \u201cWe\u2019ll end up with many vintage car enthusiasts involved.\u201d While we\u2019re not sure what this implies, the notion of an American-built Eagle lining up on the grid with a Hill and a Gurney driving it, seems almost too good to be true.
