{"id":459936,"date":"2003-07-01T03:01:39","date_gmt":"2003-07-01T10:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=106898"},"modified":"2024-02-20T09:42:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-20T09:42:38","slug":"fitch-to-be-honored-by-lime-rock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/fitch-to-be-honored-by-lime-rock\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitch to be Honored by Lime Rock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">American racing pioneer John Fitch\u2019s contributions to Lime Rock Park, (and sports car racing in general) will be recognized when he serves as an honored guest at this year\u2019s Lime Rock Park Vintage Festival on Labor Day weekend, Aug. 29-Sept. 1.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After retiring from active competition for the likes of Briggs Cunningham and the factory Mercedes Benz team, Fitch devoted the next 10 years of his life to the development of Connecticut\u2019s Lime Rock Park racecourse, where he served as the track director from 1955 to 1964. Fitch not only helped develop the intriguing 1.53-mile layout and brought it to fruition, but he also nurtured Lime Rock through its lean formative years. Or as Rich Taylor said about Fitch in his book \u201cLime Rock Park 35 Years of Racing\u201d, \u201cWithout his knowledge and connections \u2013 not to mention, his international reputation \u2013 Lime Rock Park would probably never have gotten off the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2003\/07\/n1-200307-fea.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-817977 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2003\/07\/n1-200307-fea.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"702\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2003\/07\/n1-200307-fea.jpg 702w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2003\/07\/n1-200307-fea-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2003\/07\/n1-200307-fea-100x48.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2003\/07\/n1-200307-fea-293x140.jpg 293w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/a>\u201cThe unexpected hurrah over me at the Vintage Festival is a humbling joy,\u201d Fitch said. \u201cThe best thing about it is the history it evokes of both the good times and the bad. But most of all, the friends and colleagues, new and old, who made it happen and keep it going and growing in style and substance.
