Lotus 72\u2014Formula One Icon<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>In the current era of Formula One, today\u2019s frontrunners will be fodder for the back of the grid in just a few short mon\u00adths. As such, it se\u00adems all the more amazing that in the early \u201970s, a racecar like the Lotus 72 could be competitive for more than 5 years!<\/p>\n

Colin Chapman and Maurice Phillippe\u2019s striking wedge-shaped Lotus 72 was first introduced in 1970 as a replacement for their unsuccessful four-wheel-drive Type 63. How\u00adever, the 72 was quick right out of the box and not only wrapped up the World Dri\u00advers\u2019 and Contructors\u2019 Championships in \u201970, but also went thr\u00adough a number of dev\u00adelopmental evolut\u00adions that saw it claim both championships again in 1972 and the Con\u00adstructors\u2019 champ\u00adion\u00adship in1973.<\/p>\n

With such a long and illustrious ca\u00ad\u00ad-reer, it seems only fitting that the venerable 72 should finally receive a work worthy of its heritage. In Lotus 72: Formula One Icon, author and VRJ contributor Michael Ol\u00adiver does a thorough and ent\u00adertaining job of exploring the development and history of this magical car.<\/p>\n

Many readers may re\u00adcall Oliver\u2019s previous work on the Lotus 49. While an out\u00adstanding work at the content lev\u00adel, some criticized the publisher\u2019s decision to try and pack so much content into a smaller-sized book with limited color usage. However, there are no fears of this with Oliver\u2019s Lotus 72 book. Hats off to publisher Coterie Press, who not only printed all 240 pages in color, but also choose to produce the book in a larger, 30-cm x 30-cm format as well.<\/p>\n

Not only is the book larger and bet\u00adter re\u00adproduced, but with the expanded size, Lotus 72 benefits from more than 450 mostly unseen images of the car.<\/p>\n

All this creates a canvas fr\u00adom which Ol\u00adiver can now properly tell the Lot\u00adus 72\u2019s story and he does this by elucidating the car\u2019s history with interviews and first-hand memories from the drivers, mechanics and associates that made it all happen.
