However, everyone familiar with this unique type of starting formation always refers to it as the \u201cLe Mans start\u201d. Running to your car, jumping in, starting the car, then taking off was the way early sports car racing was started. Due to strict safety regulations, 1969 was the last time this type of start was held at Le Mans. Other tracks soon followed. At that time the N\u00fcrburgring was a 14-mile-a-lap road course that required both a fast and reliable car.
