Un\u00adser was the older br\u00adother of Bobby and Al Unser, Sr. and followed the family trad\u00adition of racecar dr\u00ad\u00adiving until 1964 when he was diagnosed with multiple scle\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00adrosis. After retiring from active driving, Unser went to work for Shelby Am\u00aderican building engines for the Cobra te\u00adam and working as a member of their pit crew. In 1966, Unser started his own business of building race engines and working on racecars. Unser\u2019s powerful engines took many drivers, including his brother Bob\u00adby and Mario Andretti, to victory in the famed Pikes Peak Hillclimb.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Unser is survived by LaVerne, his wife of 35 years, and his daughter Lynn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On March 2, Louis Unser passed away at the age of 72.
