The 30th National Convention (SAAC-30) of the Shelby American Automobile Club will be held at the California Speedway in Fontana, CA June 30\u2013July 3, 2005.<\/p>\n
The convention starts Thursday with a bus tour of legendary Southern California speed shops and dream car garages, stopping at some of the places where hot rodding was born: SoCal Speed Shop, Blair\u2019s Speed Shop, Dean Moon and Edelbrock. SAAC has also planned stops at a couple of dream car garages owned by SAAC members that are guaranteed to leave the head spinning. For lunch\u2014how about a bowl of chili \u201cwhupped\u201d up by Carroll Shelby at his Goodyear Race Tire facility? This special bus tour is limited to the first 300 people who register.<\/p>\n
Friday starts out with registration and tech inspection at California Speedway in Fontana, then swap meet set-up, vintage race practice and drag racing at the Speedway. Friday evening will start with the Reunion of Former Shelby American Employees dinner followed by an employee memorabilia auction.<\/p>\n
Saturday morning will start with concours judging, popular vote car show and open track along with vintage race qualifying. Saturday evening will be dinner followed by an evening program.<\/p>\n
Sunday\u2019s program will consist of open track sessions, popular vote car show and four vintage races. The first race features Cobras\/GT40s with original Cobras, original GT40s, CSX4000 Cobras (including Shelby Challenge Series cars) and CSX7000 small block FIA Cobras. There will be subclasses for Cobras, GT40s and Shelby Series cars.<\/p>\n
The second race is limited to 1965, 1966 and 1967 GT350s and 1965\u20131966 Mustang fastbacks built to GT350 specifications. The third race will be the Historic Trans-Am Group, which only accepts cars that actually raced in the Trans-Am Series. These include Shelby Trans-Am Mustangs, Penske Camaros and Javelins, Pontiac Firebirds, Dodge Challengers, Plymouth Barracudas, Bud Moore Boss Mustangs and Mercury Cougars. The fourth race will be for A\/Sedans that are 1965\u20131972 Mustangs not in the Historic Trans-Am group. Other sedans, like Camaros, Barracudas and Firebirds, owned by SAAC members and restored accurately to period specifications, will also be allowed.<\/p>\n
