Gooding & Company announced it has been chosen to conduct the sale of the Otis Chandler Collection of classic automobiles, motorcycles and automotive memorabilia.<\/p>\n
The auction will take place October 21 at the Vintage Museum of Transportation and Wildlife in Oxnard, California. The collection encompasses approximately 50 classic cars, 40 vintage motorcycles and memorabilia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are deeply honored to have been chosen by Bettina Chandler to conduct this important sale,\u201d said David Gooding, president and founder of Gooding & Company. \u201cOtis Chandler spent the last 40 years searching and continually refining the exceptional vehicles chosen for his renowned museum. The Chandler Collection has many of the world\u2019s finest and rare examples of automobiles and motorcycles. This will be one the most significant collections ever to be auctioned.\u201d<\/p>\n
Among the special automotive marques to be auctioned are: Duesenberg, Corvette, Napier, Packard, Porsche, Mercedes and Mercer. The list of motorcycles is equally impressive encompassing rare examples of Indian, Crocker, Brough Superior, Henderson, as well as one of the earliest known examples of a Harley-Davidson. The complete list of vehicles to be auctioned will be made public in the near future.<\/p>\n
Otis Chandler is known for transforming the Los Angeles Times into one of the most respected, widely read and profitable newspapers in the United States and diversifying Times Mirror Corporation into a media empire. He was an avid sportsman and his passions included surfing, big game hunting, marathon cycling and automobile racing.
