{"id":460897,"date":"2006-09-01T03:05:32","date_gmt":"2006-09-01T10:05:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=70460"},"modified":"2023-12-31T16:21:03","modified_gmt":"2023-12-31T16:21:03","slug":"saac-at-vir-a-big-hit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/saac-at-vir-a-big-hit\/","title":{"rendered":"SAAC\u2008at VIR a Big Hit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) made its first visit to VIRginia International Raceway over the weekend of June 30\u2013July 2 for its 31st annual convention, and the event was a big hit with participants and fans alike.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hundreds of rare and desirable Ford-powered cars that sprang from the fertile imagination of Carroll Shelby were on hand for the event, including both 289 and 427 Shelby Cobras, Shelby Mustangs, Boss Mustangs and Ford GT40s. The weekend included vintage races, a concours d\u2019elegance, a car show, touring laps, drivers\u2019 schools, a swap meet and a literature\/memorabilia auction. The event was very popular with fans, attracting one of the biggest crowds at VIR since it reopened in 2000.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cVIR is a wonderful facility,\u201d said SAAC national director Ken Eber. \u201cWe had people from all over the world on hand for our convention, and we had a lot of good feedback.
