Specifically crafted by Porsche for competition on only two circuits during the 1970 and 1971 World Sportscar Championship seasons\u2014the Targa Florio and the N\u00fcrburgring Nordschleife\u2014its lightweight design was revolutionary yet maintained exceptional weight distribution.<\/p>\n<p>Powered by a reliable and potent eight-cylinder flat 908 engine, which underwent initial testing in autumn 1967, it was developed for the three-liter prototypes used from 1968 onwards.
