The Shelby GT500<\/a>, which was discontinued after the 2022 model year, held the title of the most powerful production Mustang until the arrival of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD<\/a>, which boasts over 800 horsepower.<\/p>\n

As the ultimate version of the sixth-generation Mustang, the Shelby GT500 features a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine that produces 760 horsepower, enabling it to accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 MPH. But can it outperform an Italian supercar like the Ferrari 296 GTS in a drag race?<\/p>\n

The Ferrari 296 GTS<\/a> comes with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine and a single electric motor, combining for a total of 819 horsepower. Both cars are equipped with dual-clutch automatic transmissions, but the Ferrari’s lighter weight gives it an additional edge in performance, as the 296 GTS is significantly lighter than the GT500.<\/p>\n

Tim Burton, the host of the Shmee150 YouTube channel<\/a>, is set to find out by pitting these two machines against each other in a series of drag races.<\/p>\n
