The primary upgrade was the engine, expanded from a 3.7-litre to a 4.0-litre six-cylinder, first seen in the 1961 Lagonda Rapide.<\/p>\n\n<p>This &#8216;400&#8217; engine, with three SU carburetors, produced 282bhp at 5,500rpm and paired with a four-speed\/overdrive gearbox. Externally, the DB5 resembled the final Series 5 DB4, except for twin fuel filler caps, but internally, it featured many improvements like alternator electrics, Girling disc brakes, Sundym glass, electric windows, and an oil pressure gauge as standard.<\/p>\n\n<p>The DB5&#8217;s performance was exceptional, with 0-60mph in 7.1 seconds and a top speed of 148mph, ranking it among the world&#8217;s fastest cars. Beyond its impressive specs, the DB5 became iconic through its association with James Bond, debuting in &#8220;Goldfinger&#8221; in 1964. This appearance cemented its status in popular culture, appealing to all ages, from adults admiring Sean Connery&#8217;s suave persona to children playing with Bond-themed toys.<\/p>\n\n<p>The DB5 was also available as a convertible, though the &#8216;Volante&#8217; name was reserved for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/1965%e2%86%921969-aston-martin-db6\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DB6<\/a>, and Harold Radford offered a shooting brake conversion.
