{"id":489847,"date":"2008-02-01T20:00:35","date_gmt":"2008-02-02T04:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/\/?p=58571"},"modified":"2024-12-27T12:45:43","modified_gmt":"2024-12-27T12:45:43","slug":"rain-bird","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/rain-bird\/","title":{"rendered":"1964 Cooper\u2013Maserati T61P &#8211; Rain Bird"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class='memberful-global-teaser-content'>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: justify;\">1964 Cooper\u2013Maserati T61P<\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By the time Roy Salvadori chased Bruce McLaren to the checkered flag at the Daily Express International Trophy meeting at Silverstone on May 2, 1964, sports car racing had already begun to change significantly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Roger Penske often gets the credit\u2014or the blame\u2014for what led to the real \u201cbig bangers\u201d when he took a 1961 F1 Cooper and built it into a barely disguised Grand Prix car that was eligible for sports car racing. It started with a Climax engine, but by the time McLaren drove it against Salvadori at Silverstone, it had acquired a lightweight Oldsmobile. Jim Clark was also in that race with a Lotus 30 with a Ford engine, and Salvadori\u2019s Tommy Atkin\u2019s Cooper T61P had the 4.9-liter Maserati unit.
