He began as did so many others of his contemporaries in the 1950s, went on to race with Briggs Cunningham\u2019s team, and from there went to the John Mecom team. He drove a wide variety of cars, won three national championships, but left racing to form his own shop now run by his son.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>He raced in the Cunningham team\u2019s cars and the Harry Heuer Scarabs against the best of North American and European talent, against such drivers as Jim Hall, Roger Penske, Dick Thompson, Ken Miles, and many, many others. He was part of the Mecom team, which put the hurt on the Cobras of Carol Shelby at the fall 1963 Nassau Speed Weeks in the only Lola Chevrolet coupe to escape the notice of the Ford Motor Company.
