Vanderbilt, Jr. challenged European automakers to the first international motor race to be held in America\u2014on the byways of Nassau County, New York. The year 2008 marks the centennial of America\u2019s first Vanderbilt Cup victory by George Robertson in a Locomobile, which appropriately baptized the first leg of Vanderbilt\u2019s prophetic Long Island Motor Parkway, America\u2019s first suburban paved motorway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Celebrating this American milestone, over 100 years of automotive evolution will be celebrated at this year\u2019s event with timed demonstration runs for cars with a racing heritage (dodging hay bales on the museum\u2019s service roads) and a Concours de Provenance for vehicles with special historic significance. Additionally, an exhibition of automotive art and memorabilia are being planned at the Childs Frick mansion.
