The 2008 Bonhams & Butterfields “Quail Lodge, A Sale of Exceptional Motorcars and Automobilia” was held Friday, August 15th at the Quail Lodge Resort in Carmel, California.<\/p>\n

Bonhams & Butterfields’ 11th annual auction, held in connection with The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering, featured 77 cars, including a 1939 Talbot-Lago T150 C SS that brought $4,847,000 and a 1960 Jaguar E2A Prototype that sold for $4,957,000.<\/p>\n

An at-capacity crowd of collectors and motoring aficionados from around the world paid more than $21.7 million for a dazzling and diverse line-up of cars that included extremely rare and historic competition machines from noted private and institutional collections.<\/p>\n

Mark Osborne, VP and Director of the US Motoring Department at Bonhams & Butterfields said, “This year’s stellar sale was another great effort put forth by our International Motorcar Department. We’ve proven again today that cars of stellar provenance \u2013 the best of the best, continue to attract collector interest. The collector car market is alive and strong.”<\/p>\n

Bonhams offered 77 automobiles for sale, and 44 found new owners, reflecting a 57% sales rate. The total automotive sales volume was $20,999,550, inclusive of a 10% buyer’s premium.<\/p>\n

Bonhams’ auction included five cars that sold for more than $1 million, including two cars that exceeded the $4 million mark.<\/p>\n

Spirited bidding was seen from assembled enthusiasts, sports racing fans and collectors, with international competition via telephones, resulting in the following highlights:<\/p>\n
