On winter\u2019s final weekend in the Southern Hemisphere, September 20-21, the Veloce Racing Association will hold its second annual East Coast Challenge for Alfa Romeos. The VRA is a group of like-minded Alfisti, many of whom have spent years admiring, owning and racing Alfas, with the nucleus of the club having been together for more than ten years. Its purpose is to promote racing according to regulations that ensure affordability and performance parity.<\/p>\n
VRA President Bill Magoffin says: \u201cOne of the big challenges for Marque sporting car clubs is to come up with a set of rules that allows different models with different logbook specifications to compete on an equitable basis. Learning from experience over the last 15 years, VRA seems to have hit on a formula that is working for the Alfa racer, and it\u2019s taken off. Racers can run Historics, Sprints, Club Car, Series Production or whatever, then perhaps bolt on some different rubber and slug it out with their Alfa mates for bragging rights in the bar at the end of the day. The keys are affordability, close competition and elimination of the unfair advantage.\u201d<\/p>\n
