Despite this admirable longevity, however, the series entered its landmark season facing an uncertain future after the reunification of IndyCar racing, following a dozen years of civil war, left Atlantic among its vast collateral damage. Fortunately, for more than half of those 35 years, the championship has been directed by Vicki O\u2019Connor; and now, with a little help from her friends, she\u2019s again steering a course toward calmer waters. Among its countless graduates, Atlantic numbers two F1 World Champions\u2014as well as the iconic Gilles Villeneuve\u2014five winners of seven U.S. National Championships, six Indy 500 winners and, most recently, dual Grand-Am champions in Jon Fogarty and Alex Gurney.
