Damon Hill OBE, president of the British Racing Drivers\u2019 Club (BRDC) and the 1996 Formula One World Champion, joined\u00a0 Richard\u00a0 Phillips\u00a0 and\u00a0 his\u00a0 staff\u00a0 at\u00a0 Silverstone\u00a0 on\u00a0 October 2, 2008,\u00a0 to celebrate\u00a0 the\u00a0 circuit\u2019s\u00a0 Diamond\u00a0 Anniversary.\u00a0 Hill and\u00a0 Phillips\u00a0 posed\u00a0 for photos\u00a0 with\u00a0 a\u00a0 60th\u00a0 anniversary birthday cake baked in the shape of the Northamptonshire circuit\u2019s famous Grand Prix track, before presenting it to the staff from Silverstone and the BRDC.<\/p>\n
Hill commented, \u201cIt is testimony to British motor sport that Silverstone is still going strong after 60 years. This is largely thanks to the support of fans, competitors, marshals, and the motor sport community.\u201d Richard Phillips, Managing Director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, added, \u201cSilverstone is a unique\u00a0 race\u00a0 circuit,\u00a0 loved by\u00a0 many\u00a0 of\u00a0 the\u00a0 drivers\u00a0 and\u00a0 riders\u00a0 who\u00a0 race\u00a0 here.\u00a0 The\u00a0 greatest names in motor sport have all competed on this track, ranging from Luigi Villoresi who won the\u00a0 first\u00a0 ever\u00a0 Grand\u00a0 Prix\u00a0 in\u00a0 1948, through to\u00a0 our\u00a0 very\u00a0 own\u00a0 Lewis\u00a0 Hamilton\u00a0 who\u00a0 won\u00a0 this year\u2019s British Grand Prix in July.
