Dan Rubin, whose photographs of the calamitous 1955 Le Mans 24 Hours brought the tragedy into American homes on the pages of Life magazine, has died in New York City at the age of 84.<\/p>\n
Following his service with the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps during World War II, Rubin became a commercial photographer and worked with all the major New York advertising agencies. Among his clients were Jaguar, Champion Spark Plug, and Rolls Royce, and his photographs from sports car races appeared in both automotive and general interest magazines, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n
He also shot the first color cover for Sports Illustrated, depicting Jim Kimberly and his Ferrari, and was the first official team photographer for an NFL franchise, doing that job for the New York Giants beginning in the late 1950s.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Steffany, son Jeffry and his wife Laura, and granddaughters Shannon and Olivia, to whom we extend our sincerest condolences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
