{"id":490683,"date":"2009-05-19T16:00:11","date_gmt":"2009-05-19T20:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportscardigest.com\/?p=5573"},"modified":"2024-12-06T03:30:59","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T03:30:59","slug":"original-spring-classic-auction-results-mecum-auction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.supercars.net\/blog\/original-spring-classic-auction-results-mecum-auction\/","title":{"rendered":"Original Spring Classic Auction Results \u2013 Mecum Auction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mecum Auction held its 2009 Original Spring Classic Auction on May 13-17th in Indianapolis, Indiana.<\/p>\n<p>Mecum&#8217;s 22nd annual Original Spring Classic Auction featured more than 1,000 cars, headlined by the 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe, 1964 Cooper Monaco King Cobra, 1938 Indy Blue Crown Special Racecar, 1964 Shelby Cobra 289, 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 S\/C and 1966 Ford GT40 MK I Coupe, among many significant collector cars.<\/p>\n<p>Top sale went to a 1966 427 S\/C Cobra Roadster at $1,165,000, followed by the 1966 Shelby Cobra 427 Competition Roadster at $1,000,000, 1967 Shelby GT500 Convertible for $825,000 and the 1964 Cooper Monaco King Cobra that sold for $600,000.<\/p>\n<p>Bidding on the legendary 1965 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe stalled at $6,800,000 &#8211; below the required reserve &#8211; although it continues to be marketed by Mecum. However, as the centerpiece for the Indy Spring Classic, the Shelby Daytona brought great energy and many new customers to the auction.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think the economy is tough right now, but we&#8217;re taking the position that we&#8217;re going to exist above it,&#8221; said President Dana Mecum. &#8220;Three years ago at the peak of the collector car hobby, we sold a best of $30 million. In the current economic climate, the team at Mecum got back to basics and worked hard for buyers and sellers to have the strongest presentation of cars and registered bidders we&#8217;ve ever organized. The Mecum employees deserve all the credit for their wonderful customer service, energy and dedication at the auction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mecum estimates final sales for the Spring Classic Auction will reach $40 million with The Bid Goes On purchases.
