Three hundred kilometers south of Le Mans can be found another ancient French city with a lengthy motor sport history, Angoul\u00eame. There, on the third weekend in September, the 70th anniversary of the first race through the city streets will be celebrated. Instead of running through the scenic rural countryside like its northern \u201cneighbor,\u201d however, the re-creation of the Remparts Grand Speedway Racing takes place on a street circuit that remains unchanged since it was first laid out in 1939.<\/p>\n
The festivities will commence on the evening of Friday, September 18, with a Concours d\u2019Elegance, where some 30 teams will be on display in full regalia, each hoping to outdo the other. That will be followed by Saturday\u2019s Rallye International de Charente over local roads, and the Concours d\u2019Etat in the Town Hall gardens. Sunday will close out the weekend with a revival of the historic street races over the Circuit International des Remparts d\u2019Angoul\u00eame.<\/p>\n
A number of exceptional cars brought from museums for the occasion will be one attraction, while a reconstitution of the original July 2, 1939, grid will also take place, and the 100th anniversaries of both the Bugatti and Morgan makes will be honored as well.
