\"\"<\/a>Wayne Gardner took his customary win in the second half of the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy, riding John-Lee Pemberton\u2019s Matchless with his usual \u00e9lan. Ian Bain made the best start with a ten \u2019bike-length lead by the time all the riders first arrived at St. Mary\u2019s but he soon dropped down the order once Tim Jackson and Michael Russell got into the groove.<\/p>\n

Following the rider changes, Gardner was visibly faster than his rivals, routinely dipping below 1m 30s lap times, as Steve Brogan – having taken over from Bain – squabbled with Michael Rutter (who\u2019d taken over from Russell), the former falling back in the closing stages. Gardner crossed the line a full 20-seconds ahead of Rutter after a millimetre perfect display of precision riding.<\/p>\n
