The island, home to road racing on its public roads between 1952 and 1959 (as well as in 1963), is offshore in Lake Erie, a 30-minute ferry ride north of Catawba Island, less than an hour east of Toledo.<\/p>\n<p>A special effort is being made to assemble the actual cars and drivers who participated in the original races, but anyone with an interest in preserving the history of open-road sports car racing in the \u201950s is welcome to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Among the activities being planned are escorted tours of the original course, the establishment of permanent historical markers at select locations around the circuit, a car show, and much more.<\/p>\n<p>Proceeds from the event will go to support the Put-In-Bay Road Races archives and exhibit at the Lake Erie Historical Society Museum at Put-In-Bay.
